Repairs to Bikeway in Bedford

We’ll be starting repairs to the (Bedford) Minuteman Bikeway July 2 (Wed). The first phase will be to remove the loam along the side of the path where the roots have penetrated the asphalt. The following week, a crew will be on site to cut the roots. For both of these weeks, the bikepath will be open, and we’ll have a police detail with the contractor to warn users of the work.

Following the root cutting work, we’ll be sawcutting the asphalt to remove the roots under the pavement. This work will have temporary gravel patches for a day, but will be level with the path. The gravel patches will be paved while we wait for the final phase. Again, we expect the bikepath to be open while we remove the roots. We don’t have a schedule yet from the planer and paver contractors, but it looks like that will be in August.

Note, the Town line is between Westview and Wiggins (last two street crossings before the Depot terminus).

When we are closer to the planing/paving dates in Aug, I will post detour options/map (Wiggins-Loomis, South Rd, Westview Cemetery, ...)

Please respect the work crews. Questions/comments/complaints should be sent to BedfordBike@gmail.com

Repairs to Bikeway in Lexington

Hi, please share this with your communities; it's the first headsup from Lexington town engineers about the repaving of the Minuteman Bikeway in Lexington from the Arlington town line to Fottler slated to start Monday, August 11. I understand from John Livsey that police details will be posted from 7 am to 7 pm during the 5 day closure (expected to be Monday through Friday of that week, weather permitting) to help users cross Mass Ave at Drake and at Fottler.

The repaving of the super-bumpy section between Fletcher and Woburn streets will take place after this work is done. There are also a couple of culvert problems that need to be addressed, as well, and information will provided once the DPW schedules the work. At least one of the culvert problems will involve another bikeway closure in the area between Seasons 4 and Woburn St.

As you know, the town engineers will appreciate cooperation from everyone during the period when the Bikeway is closed, so anything you can do to get the word out and to urge good manners and respectful behavior toward the construction crew will be appreciated!

Minuteman Bikeway will be closed starting on Monday, August 11th. The closure will be from Drake Rd in Arlington to Fottler Ave in Lexington and bike traffic will be diverted to Mass Ave. Cyclists should cross the road as necessary and follow the direction of traffic. Use caution and follow the rules of the road for vehicular traffic. The work is anticipated to take one week.
